I also lean towards not putting things side-by-side and not making things wider. I now have enough resolution to read a wide screen, but only because my previous laptop cratered this past August. There are people who read and/or post on this page who may not have the latest equipment. But even of everyone did, it is harder to read text that runs too wide (where the lines are too long).
