Two things I see. First, the expanding cloud of condensing vapor from the shock wave is known as a Wilson Cloud. They were made famous from nuclear tests.

Second, if you repeat the explosion sequence repeatedly, you can see that at the very beginning of the explosion part of the ash cloud actually outpaces the condensation cloud, meaning it came out of the volcano FASTER than the speed of sound. If this were explosives, by definition this makes it a detonation, which involves the thermal reaction moving through the medium at supersonic speeds.
