Iceland eruption video

Good video, but you have to watch a 30 s commercial:

I have not bothered to check whether this fissure eruption is where there have been M5+ quakes the last week.

The story is worth a look. Unclear to me from this what the relation between the fissure eruption and the volcano under 850 m of ice. Seems there are 2 volcanoes acting up in different places (although that is not how it is worded)?

Seems the fissure is ejecting lava that was building under the caldera.

Yikes, looked at your link. Past eruption volumes of tens of km; similar to Krakatau (except probably basalt more than explosion. Would be cool to see current eruption in person.

The link is pretty wild:

Scroll down to the video of flying over the lava flows and vents by helicopter.

Yikes!

Direct link to video on YouTube:

My first thought was wondering what they were flying. I just hope it was a twin engine heli in case of and engine out situation. No place to safely land. (I flight sim a lot, including helis).

Then seeing the lava fountain.... totally surreal. Looked like something from a disaster movie. Almost looks fake because of the sheer scale of the eruption.

Don't feel like working (Sunday morning) so I went to look for recent video of the eruption. The link is "live", so does not get more recent than that. There is also a GPS elevation plot and an earthquake plot, presumably live.

More about the drone than the eruption, but some of you, or at least Brian, may be interested:

There have been continuing M5.0 and smaller quakes in the area of the Baroarbunga eruption in Iceland, so I Googled what is going on.

The link to Scientific American article is interesting about gas emissions.
