Seems like a lot of activity lately, especially in the last day. Blue dots all over the place.

That's linked to the live image.

I was noticing that as well. A rather elegant apparent line from San Simeon California to near Battle Mountain in Nevada. I know that we have a tendency to create patterns, but this one stands out right now.

Thing is, Penny, I've noticed that line many times in the past as well. It's not always there, but at times it stands out like the proverbial sore thumb.

I have a hypothesis, and it may not be quake related... but I've not investigated it. Part of the problem is the fact that these maps are preliminary data and the events may disappear once in the catalog. I used to save the preliminary maps on a daily basis so I could later check against the catalog but I've just never got around to it.

I just noticed that the line of quakes we just talked about is gone.

I knew I should have saved a copy of that map for later comparison. Angry

Oh well....

Well, it did seem to point to a 4.0 at the NE end near Battle Mountain!
Probably just something we saw, rather than a pointer!

Often times it's just noise from other quakes around the world. The software gets confused.

But decades ago there was the rumors of the Air Force flying a super secret supersonic aircraft, dubbed Aurora. People would routinely hear sonic boom type sounds at specific date/times and even see odd looking contrails.

A seismologist apparently was able to track the sonic signature over multiple seismographs and track the progress of the flight, right towards Nevada. I don't recall if it was specifically to the infamous Area51/Groom Lake which is just north of Las Vegas.

That line of quakes was towards northern/mid Nevada. However, there is the Tonopah Test Range further north of Area51/Groom... although not quite as far north as this line of quakes. However, that line of quakes seems a regular recurring feature.

See where my conjecturing is going?

But I've just never followed up on my WAG.
