M5.2 Borrego Springs California - Island Chris - 06-10-2016

It was strike-slip:

This is, I think without checking, the San Jacinto fault system, which is vey active (fast displacements, maybe faster than the southern San Andreas fault).

Being in the middle of the night I did not feel it as I was asleep. Sad

There sure seems to be a lot of aftershocks, even for this size of quake.

And, there seems to have been quite a bit of activity in the area before the main shock.

It's unfortunate that I cannot spend the time watching quake maps like I used to or I might have noticed this activity and wondered if something was brewing.

There has definitely been an uptick of quakes on the San Jacinto since the 2010 Baja quake. There was talk about stress transfer onto the San Jacinto.

I wish I could spend more time on this. The software I had been working on could have been helpful in visualizing these things if it were completed to what I had in mind. Maybe, someday yet.
