Eastern Sierra Nevada - PennyB - 04-29-2015 3 quakes there along the Eastern Sierra alignments. This tends to be a fairly active "swarm" area, but haven't seen this activity quite like this in a while. Just noting! RE: Eastern Sierra Nevada - Island Chris - 04-30-2015 Hi Penny, 2 of the three clusters are near and in the volcanic caldera: Mono Lake and Log Valley. Actually, Mono Lake may not be a caldera yet, but Roy Bailey on a UCSB field trip said there was a magma chamber there, and there is a young (historic?) small eruption. Other big quakes like Landers and probably Denali triggered quakes in this area (I think), so would be interesting to compare timing of the initiation of this to the arrival of Nepal seismic waves of various types. Penny: did you see my complaint about lack of information being posted on Nepal by anyone except Brian and me? I'm very interested in the geology of the rupture! Chris |
